What is happening to the Art gallery business?

Whoa!

It's only the second most tragically compromised market in art that I can remember in nearly 30 years of being in this business. Why?
What is different?

Love to hear what you have to say.......

I can't speak as a gallery owner, but I can speak as a collector. A lot of gallery's try to sell the same sort of art at inflated prices. When I buy, I want to know that (1) the piece is what it purports to be; (2) that the gallery is unique and can offer unique services for particular artists; and (3) I am not being gouged.

There are no licensing requirements or educational requirements for anyone who wants to call themselves a "director" of a gallery. As far as I am concerned you get the respect by getting the good reputation.
