How are we doing?

I'm still confused: are there art gallery businesses who are doing well, or not?  To hear the mainstream media tell it, art dealers are jumping out of sixth story windows.  But then, I hear that those who are dealing in works of art  in the higher range of price -- like those guys in Hawaii -- are having record years.
So, what's up?

People still buy art when the economy is tough. But they don't want to do it in plain sight of those who are struggling.  So, my advice to retailers is get those viewing rooms going and learn how to use 'em....

Web design in America

Since so much has already been written about this, I'll just defer to those people who are much more conversant than I am in these things, and leave my rant to only this:

Why do we have to kow-tow (is that how one spells that?) to the browsers, when we are the ones writing the code?  We have to write code now for three (soon to be four for we Mac users) different browsers that all interpret xhtml and CSS differently.

Me no worry

I'm so relieved that President Elect OBama is soon to be in office........I just can't wait until the day that he's paid my mortage and gotten me health insurance. Praise the Lord! I'm just sure it's going to happen just like he said, aren't you?

Do gallery directors not want to train salespeople?

Training salespeople to sell is the single most annoying responsibility for gallery director. One of the more frequent obstacles I encounter is the salesperson’s mindset. But it can often start with the gallery director.
In any company, the overall attitude of the company comes directly from the top, creating a didactic of sorts. Whether because of mandate or just the influence of a powerful personality, the staff takes on the attitude and the business approach of the owner/operator.
Gallery directors are often given the responsibility of 'training' the newbies, which often is little more than having them follow him or her around for a day or two. What's worse, they often have to split commissions with the trainees.....how to get around that? Click the link above...
