About the Large Collector
"Wow." That invariably is what collectors woud say when we hung this work of art for them in a viewing room in the Beverly Hills gallery where I worked in 1982. The sheet itself is 60" long and in a frame it's well over six feet.
This is the widest serigraph that was produced of Nagel's work. Measuring five feet in length, the work of art is just staggering when framed and on the wall.
Collectors Gallery was a small gallery
in Pacific Grove, California, which is a tiny community on the ocean just north of toney Carmel. They
were an early supporter of Nagel's work and one that was apparently approached by Mirage to share in
the expense of their own poster. We don't recall
which
of them came first, whether the smallish
poster,
or this, the large version of the same image. A brilliant piece of design using complementary shapes
and iconography -- note the use of the model's hair which suggests the graceful line of the Cypress
tree, a hallmark of that part of the California Coast. We are brokering this serigraph on behalf of a
client.
This is the original, limited edition, signed by Nagel himself in pencil, in a small edition size.
