About the Limited Editions Posters

The limited edition graphics numbered 34 titles in all and had average printed 'run' of about 1500 sheets. The run was comprised of usually more than two 'states' (or 'versions') of each poster: a signed and numbered state of (usually) 250; an unsigned state (s.i.s. or signed in screen) of about 1250 and usually a signed printer's proof and/or artists proof state.

About the Park South

Park South was the name of a small but influential art gallery in New York owned by Laura Gold, a dealer in antiquarian posters and art deco. The gallery was located on the outer edge of Carnegie Hall, hence the musical reference in Nagel's composition. Gold was an influential dealer in rare posters and so it was somewhat of a coup for Mirage to arrange a poster with her gallery's name. Gold insisted that the poster reflect her business' complete contact info, leaving this poster to be the only one in Nagel's oeuvre to bear a phone number.

A Word to Those New to Nagel

You will notice there is huge difference in price on Nagel's work. This is especially true on eBay where you'll see things for as little as $20. Those prints are open edition, off-set lithographs and in some cases, are copies of famous Nagel images. Some are knock-offs or even outright fakes
The 'real' Nagel collectible art -- i.e., graphics and posters released during Nagel's life -- you rarely see, but they can bring prices in three and four figures. CAVEAT EMPTOR: Although many of the Nagels you see on eBay are correct, there is also an awful lot of misrepresentation (some of it is admittedly inadvertant) and fraudulent listings. Be careful if you're thinking of spending any serious money. For more on that subject,
