About "Wasserman Silkscreen Co."

Contrary to what the Nagel book indicates, (the two images were juxtaposed) this poster was sized at 17x25. The same image was used for 'Standiing Lady', a large ltd. ed. print (37x60). This image has the words "Wasserman Silkscreen" running vertically in the left panel.

Jeff Wasserman, a master serigrapher who came from Gemini G.E.L. (a well respected NY fine art atelier) printed all of the lifetime posters and limited editions, up until 1980-- at which point Sampoer Silkscreen got the job -- and he is probably the finest silk screen printer in America. A very haunting image.

Wassmerman's shop was (and still is) located next door to the shabby chic offices of Mirage Editions down in the industrial disctrict of Santa Monica, CA.

Wasserman Silkscreen 1980;

The complete tirage was: 250 s/n; 1000 Signed-in-Screen; 20 Artist's Proofs; 6 Printer's Proofs; and 6 doubles (s/n). All are 17 x 25"

A Hand-pulled Serigraph in 11 colors. Printed in 1980 by Wasserman Silkscreen Co.

Wasserman blind chop on bottom. The soft pink ink of the model's robe has faded to a soft apricot/buttercream. Like watercolors, pink serigraph inks fade over time. All other colors are fresh and clean. Excellent condition. This is print is ACTUALLY SIGNED BY NAGEL in pencil, rather than the signature having been printed on, which is how many sellers claim to have 'signed' Nagels. Condition of this print is excellent and would be rated: 'Fine'..

Condition of this print is rated 'fine'.

Please note: We apologize for the quality of this photograph. The print is stunning in person! This print is a serious early example of Pat's talent, and a worthy addition to a Nagel print collection.

ABOUT THE NAGEL LIMITED EDITION POSTERS

The limited edition POSTERS, only 34 titles in all, were created in extremely small editions sizes. The amounts varied with each image but on average 1500 sheets were 'pulled', plus proofs. There were two 'versions' (or what is termed 'states' in the art community) to each serigraphic poster—one state signed by Nagel in pencil; one state s.i.s. ('signed in screen') or to be more exact, unsigned since the signature was actually printed on. Usually 250 were signed, 1250 s.i.s. In the world of antiquarian, collectible posters, these would be considered posters, even still. The term normally refers to any work of art on paper which has some kind of typography on it, what in antique poster terminology is called 'letters'. . Confusing? A Word to Those New to Nagel

You will notice there is huge difference in price on Nagel's work. This is especially true on eBay where you'll see things for as little as $20. Those prints are open edition, off-set lithographs and in some cases, are copies of famous Nagel images. Some are knock-offs or even outright fakes
The 'real' Nagel collectible art -- i.e., graphics and posters released during Nagel's life -- you rarely see, but they can bring prices in three and four figures. CAVEAT EMPTOR: Although many of the Nagels you see on eBay are correct, there is also an awful lot of misrepresentation (some of it is admittedly inadvertant) and fraudulent listings. Be careful if you're thinking of spending any serious money. For more on that subject,
